Step presses are presses mainly used in metalworking to form or punch workpieces by stepwise pressing. Step presses come in various designs, including 2- to 4-column designs. The number of uprights refers to the number of vertical columns that support and guide the press. The operation of the progressive presses is based on the fact that the workpiece is placed on the punching or forming die and is pressed against the die by the closing of the press ram. The closing movement of the ram takes place in previously defined press stages, whereby the workpiece is processed step by step. Step presses are used in many industrial sectors, for example in the automotive industry, in mechanical engineering and in the electronics industry. They are frequently used to produce workpieces such as body panels, housings, casing parts and precision components. The 2- to 4-column designs are characterized by high rigidity and accuracy and are particularly suitable for the production of complex and high-precision workpieces.
