Vertical console milling machines, also called column milling machines, are tool milling machines where the milling head is mounted in a vertical position and the workpiece is fixed on a table. This design allows large and heavy workpieces to be machined. The tool holder is usually mounted in the milling head and allows the tool to be moved vertically and the workpiece to be machined from below. Vertical-console milling machines are particularly suitable for machining workpieces that have a large surface area and for which high precision is required, such as in the automotive, aerospace and mechanical engineering industries. Some of these machines also have an integrated tool changer that allows multiple tools to be changed quickly and easily, increasing productivity and reducing changeover times. There are also CNC vertical console milling machines that have computerized control and allow for greater accuracy and precision in machining.
